FASHION AND DEPRESSION
Many women do not need a reason to shop and when they do
get a reason then you should just not expect to see them at home for a few hours (read that as days). Although shopping is fun and sometimes a waste of money, however, fashion and design can benefit you as well. Everybody deals with depression and anxiety in their own way and most of the time women express their emotions through their clothes and fashion sense.
According to numerous researches, women associate colors, clothes, and designs with their mood and sense of well being. Sad and depressed women wear baggy, unfit, and possibly black or ‘unhappy’ colors, whereas women who are happy and satisfied with their life try to look amazing with bright ‘happy’ and vibrant colors like yellow, purple, etc. After thorough research, researches came to the conclusion that if women wore happy and vibrant colors and took care of themselves before going out or even for at staying home, they would feel much better and happier than they feel when they dress up in sad and baggy colors.
Fashion and design can be used as a therapy and help them overcome their anxiety or at least help reduce it. In an issue of Elle Magazine, Luita Nyong’o who is an Oscar winner spoke about her use of fashion as a means to reduce the anxiety and depression. In the United Kingdom, there are hospitals and centers that offer teenagers fashion therapy which helps them cure depression and make them feel better about themselves.
Our clothes say a lot about us and if we don’t feel good, nobody would feel good about us as well. It is important that we dress up or involve fashion in our life to not only stay stylish and up to date but also to not feel so depressed and miserable. One should start with coloring books or fashion magazines and then work on oneself to fight anxiety and depression.
