Someone thinks outside of the box and finds the perfect flaw in a problem and offers a solution that just works. The problem or question is asked in a different way and the hack simply changes the rules. Perfect! Now I can meet this challenge head on and conquer the day!
The only problem is that there are some life hacks that are just sad! A plastic bag with a straw as a poor man’s juice box is not a life hack. No. No. No. That is bad and in poor taste. Please be more creative and do not subject us to this monstrosity. Save it for open standup at the comedy club. Another bad candidate for hacks is just plain cheating. If you are not actually solving the problem well then it is not a life hack. If someone can accomplish the goal with a little bit of effort without resorting to the hack in the first place then this is a fail plain and simple.
Here is an example. I was watching a financial seminar where a wannabe hipster was asking for the best app to keep him from spending too much. The speaker simply told to get a wallet, use cash, and have some self-discipline. Harsh! Again if the hack is an excuse not to work when a little bit of work is way more effective than the hack, then you do not have a legitimate hack.
